The new MUSIC RISING site was born - abril 7, 2006! 'From Blues to Jazz to Rock'n'Roll...' - "I can't imagine what it must be like to wake up one morning and not have my guitar...' Great images, powerful words and cool clips as Edge launches a new website to promote Music Rising. 'From the Mississippi Delta to New Orleans, the Central Gulf has been the spawning ground of contemporary music from Blues to Jazz to Rock'n'Roll... But the music was silenced by the storms as whole lives were destroyed and people uprooted, leaving behind everything...' The idea behind Music Rising is simple, explains Edge. 'Thousands of musicians have lost their instruments in New Orleans - Music Rising is attempting to put those instruments back in their hands.' Check out the new site here.

I've had their version of the song, 'Jesus Blood Never Failed Me Yet' in my car for a year now, and you know what, it never has failed me yet. God Bless You."
15th 'VERTIGO show -april 28, 2006 - Vancouver, Canada - GM Place - Kings of Leon. "One" to Paul Martin / 'Original Of The Species' to the founders of Greenpeace / Dallas / Paul McGuinness and Gavin Friday / Official DVD Vancouver´s show? / Edge, maybe, discussing the future of everything with William Gibson...!! - Novelist William Gibson was here - he's writing a story for Wired Magazine - and having been at the second Seattle show (which is beginning to be viewed as one of the best shows on the tour so far) he remarked that tonight's reception from the audience was even more raucous. (Gibson knows U2 from way back - Bono even took part in a documentary about him filmed in the back of a limo - and he and his wife Deborah took the chance to catch up with Edge after the show, no doubt discussing the future of everything). Martin booed at U2 concert; fans sign Bono's end-poverty petition to PM ...ONE, when Bono called out Paul Martin to make good on the .7% of the GDP for foreign aid set by Lester Pearson, and the ONE campaign T-Shirts, that brought a tear to the B Man's eye, and he brought a bunch of kids on the stage that were wearing the T-Shirts, and put one on himself....A balloon floating on stage during Gloria and Bono saying 'you wouldn't want me to burst your balloon...' ...Bono dedicating 'Original of the Species' to the founders of Greenpeace who were in the audience. Dallas gave Edge's setlist for the night, as well as one of his signature guitar picks! Paul McGuinness and Gavin Friday where there. Gavin had just flown in from Dublin and was suffering a little jet lag. The Edge: words cannot describe this man's talent. On fire last night, having to play, as people have already mentioned, while Bono did his various PR things. 10 minute BAD, with an absolutely nailed vocal. 10 minute ONE. 10 minute Mysterious Ways, with Edge breaking it off for the last 5 minutes...it was unreal....again like Live Aid...Some photos on: U2-Vertigo-tour and on Interference
Edge visited the devastation in New Orleans - april 28, 2006 - Edge, Lori, Caroline, Andy, Dallas, John, Ed and Bob drove down to the Lower 9th along with the Frantic Films crew. Virtually nothing had changed in all that time. Still there were flattened buildings, collapsing houses, homes moved off their foundations and down the street, lots filled with nothing but mounds of debris that had once been a shop or someone’s home. Edge even been thinking about getting up onstage with Bob Dylan, but all decided that this tour was far more important for them all. Read more, on Music Rising

THIS DAY - U2´S HISTORY: he falls off / cover of "Time" magazine / "We Are The Champions" and "My Way" / a new video in Vancouver / Edge plays 'Vertigo' at the reopening of Preservation Hall jazz in New Orleans! "War" tour - april 27, 1983. U2 perform in Auburn, New York at the Cayhuga Country Community College Gym. After climbing and planting a white flag on the speakers, Bono almost loses his balance and falls off.
"Time magazine" - april 27, 1987. U2 become the 3rd band to appear on the cover of Time magazine. The caption reads, "Rocks Hottest Ticket".
"Bono and Gavin" - april 27, 1989. Ex-Virgin Prune Gavin Friday launches his debut solo album "Each Man Kills The Thing He Loves" in Dublin's Pink Elephant nightclub. Bono joins him on stage for a version of Queen's "We Are The Champions", and Paul Anka's "My Way".
U2 shoots a video in Vancouver - april 27, 2005 - Vancouver, Canada - GM Place - City of Blinding Lights, City of Blinding Lights, Hokey Pokey, City of Blinding Lights, City of Blinding Lights, City of Blinding Lights, City of Blinding Lights, Vertigo, All Because of You - Encore(s): Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own. U2 shoots a live performance video for 'City of Blinding Lights' on a day off during the Vertigo Tour. The shoot is announced on local radio, and a couple thousand people are invited in to be part of the video, though some are unfamiliar with the song. The song is performed several times for the cameras. During one break, Bono leads the crowd through the 'Hokey Pokey', with musical backing from Edge and Adam. Towards the end of the shoot, the band plays a few additional songs. They come out for an encore, where Bono sings 'Sometimes...' to 'calm myself down.' Bono led the crowd in the Hokey Cokey. Once he'd put it in, pulled it out and shaken it all about, he then asked each band member why they'd entered Pop Idol. Did Edge's mother know he was here? 'Yes, sir.' And are you nervous? 'Yes, sir.' Bono then told Edge that he looked cute in a beard, before grilling Larry: 'What do you want?' he asked. 'World peace,' replied U2's newest vocalist - which drew a huge cheer from the audience. When Bono asked Adam why he wanted to win Pop Idol, the bass player replied, 'So I can travel and meet interesting people.' All the while, the film crew worked studiously around this sideshow, with a dolly track and a lone man with a steadicam pinned to his chest. The video was being shot by the French directors Alex and Martin. At 9.30pm, Rocco starting moving people from the seats closer to the stage for a final run through. And the 3,500 Canadians - who were in such good voice they made it seem more like 50,000 - were in for a treat, as the band ripped through 'Vertigo', 'All Because of You' and 'Sometimes'. It felt like a Beatles moment, but this was U2: fans were screaming, girls were crying...All because of them. U2, on the set, in Vancouver. Blinding. ****"Hokey Cokey - an American traditional kid´s song: "You put your right foot in, You put your right foot out, You put your right foot in, And you shake it all about. You do the Hokey-Cokey, And you turn yourself around, That's what it's all about" ****
Edge plays 'Vertigo' in New Orleans - april 27, 2006 - The Preservation Hall jazz shrine reopens this weekend for the first time since Hurricane Katrina, and for a stellar group of musicians it is more than a New Orleans homecoming. The Aug. 29 hurricane destroyed the homes and instruments of hundreds of musicians and closed the venues where they played, shutting down the music scene at least temporarily. The club received a donation of instruments from guitar maker Gibson USA, which flew in U2 guitarist The Edge for the occasion. He joined several New Orleans musicians for a version of U2's "Vertigo." Later, the house band and several dozen party-goers paraded through the French Quarter to Bourbon Street, then circled back to end with a lively rendition of the Professor Longhair standard "Mardi Gras in New Orleans." look for Edge playing 110% of his best with the band *look for Edge applauding the band *Edge playing *Edge playing *Edge´s smile *Edge and Dallas *applauses to Edge *Clint huges Edge as I would like to do *Edge looking with care to the place *Edge´s smile..so comfortable to me

THIS DAY - U2´S HISTORY: 'A Year In POP' / "The Simpsons" / calling Doctor Spock.
"U2: A Year In POP" - april 26, 1997 - "U2: A Year In Pop" is aired nationwide on ABC-TV. The hour-long program includes a look at the band's history, the recording of the POP album, and highlights from opening night of the PopMart Tour in Las Vegas just 24 hours earlier. Ratings for the program are the worst-ever for a non-political program on the Big Three networks. The band had intended to include its latest single, "Staring at the Sun," during the program, but instead include "Do You Feel Loved" after the difficulties playing the former during the tour's opening night.
"U2 guest star on 'The Simpsons'" - april 26, 1998 - An animated U2 guest stars on the U.S. comedy TV series, "The Simpsons." In the episode, Homer Simpson calls upon U2 to help his campaign for Springfield Sanitation Director. Homer joins U2 on stage at a PopMart concert in Springfield. The program would air later on various stations around the world.
"Elevation" tour - april 26, 2001 - Anaheim, CA / Arrowhead Pond. Highlights were superb renditions of Beautiful Day, Until the End of the World and New Years Day one after the other that really got the crowd worked up big time. Kite was just as good as the first night. The Edge threw in some new guitar parts reminiscent of Mysterious Ways into the quieter parts of New York. Sunday Bloody Sunday...Edge broke a string forcing him to change guitars in mid-song and it raelly sucked the life out of the performance. Edge again broke a string near the end of Angel and Bono made a joke about it and had Edge play the end of the song on the low E string of his acoustic. Again The Edge had problems when his strat popped out of tune just before they went into All I Want Is You and Bono was really ragging on the poor guy saying "Calling Doctor Spock" and "Edge, are you still with us?". Edge quickly got it sorted out and they played a very good version of the song. Tonight's version of The Fly was the best of the three nights. The Edge ripped out a great solo. Edge wears, red shirt#23, this night.

THIS DAY - U2´S HISTORY: fight breaks out in the crowd / Human Rights, peace an justice / starts "POPMart" tour / three Hot Press Awards / 14th VERTIGO show!"War" tour - april 25, 1983. U2 perform in College Park, Maryland at Ritchie Coliseum. Bono interrupts "Sunday Bloody Sunday" when a fight breaks out in the crowd. "The Joshua Tree" tour - april 25, 1987. U2 perform in San Francisco, California at the Cow Palace. On the 25th, large demonstrations are held in Washington, D.C., and San Francisco where 50,000 people march for Human Rights, peace and justice. Bono mentions the march during "Bullet the Blue Sky": "And there's some people gathered in the streets of San Francisco...how many? One thousand! Two thousand! Three thousand! Four thousand! Five thousand! They don't want to hear those fighter planes. Across the trenches where the children sleep, and to the aisles of the quiet city streets, we gather in a square! How many? Millions! Turn the key and slowly unlock the door...it's our door and that's why, and we hold the key to that lock, and if we can't open it, we're going to knock it down...I hear a man breathe into a saxaphone and through the walls we hear the city groan. Outside it's America...it's San Francisco, YEAH!" Bono introduces "Springhill Mining Disaster": "This next song we've never played before. Well, we played it once on a TV show called 'The Late Late Show' back home. We were doing a special on a group called 'The Dubliners', who are the best folk guys out of Ireland. Of course we always really deep down always wanted to be a folkband, so...This song was written by an American, Peggy Seeger, and it's a song that I wish I'd hard on the radio around about the time of the miners' strike in England." Support is "Lone Justice". The BBC-UK TV show, "The Tube" airs on the 24th for the last time--U2's short piece with the band singing "Lost Highway" from their hotel room on April 14, 1987 is aired on the show.
"POPMart" tour - april 25, 1997 U2 perform in Las Vegas, Nevada. The gig is the start of the worldwide POPMart tour in support of their latest album "Pop". U2 opens its PopMart World Tour with a good, but flawed, performance in front of 38,000 people at a sold-out Sam Boyd stadium in Las Vegas. Bono again fights opening-night vocal problems, Edge suffers through several guitar difficulties, and the band is forced to stop and restart "Staring At The Sun" after beginning it off-key. The band enter the stage like boxers: walking through the crowd with a group of security crew escorting them to the b-stage while the 70s hit "Pop Muzik" plays on the PA system. Bono wears a boxer's satin robe on-stage, and shadow-boxes as the band members take their positions. Dozens of movie/TV/music celebrities are on-hand to watch the show which features the largest single video screen on the planet, a 40-foot mirrorball lemon which the band uses as it enters the stage for the encore, and a 100-foot tall toothpick with an olive on top. The centerpiece of the stage is a single, golden arch under which the band plays. The POP Mart tour lacks the cerebral sophistication of Zoo TV, but aims to hit the audience's emotions more so than that tour. Despite the opening night flaws, the show is generally well-received by critics. In justifying another massive stadium spectacle to media before the tour starts, Paul McGuinness says, "I don't think audiences can be expected to go to football stadiums for concerts if they are not going to see something that is very spectacular as well as hearing something great."
"U2 wins three times at Hot Press Awards" - april 25, 2002. U2 picks up three awards at the Hot Press Irish Music Awards in Belfast: Best Irish Band, Best Live Act for last summer's Slane gig, and the Best Male Singer award for Bono.
14th 'VERTIGO' show - april 25, 2005. Seattle, WA - Key Arena - Kings of Leon. "Miracle Drug" to Jennifer / boy Jason joins Bono during "SYCMIOYO" / "Mysterious Ways" to Adam / "Vertigo" ends the show-For the second straight show, 'Miracle Drug' is dedicated to a local girl named Jennifer whom Bono says is ill. Bono brings a young boy named Jason on stage during 'Sometimes.' They hold hands as Bono sings the song to Jason, who is also mouthing the words. It's an incredibly emotional moment, and tears stream down Bono's face as he sings the song as if singing to his own son. Bono sings 'Mysterious Ways' to 'sexy Adam', and the two do a brief duel at the tip of the ellipse. Reminiscent of U2's earliest shows, 'Vertigo' is played a second time to close the show. Eddie Vedder gets up on stage during the Kings of Leon set to play tambourine on their final song. He brings two tambourines on stage but breaks them both. He throws the broken ones in the audience and crew members hand him new ones. Bill Gates' name shows up on the screen during the One campaign texting. There is a sign language interpreter on Adam's side of the stage interpreting for a group of deaf U2 fans. The Seattle Times reports they had to fight hard to get the interpreter in the building: "Perhaps no one, however, was as fervent as Ian Aranha of Seattle, who is deaf and fought to have sign-language interpreters at the show. He was there with a small group of deaf and hearing-impaired fans. "I had to make several angry calls," he said through interpreter JoAnna Ball, of Seattle. Ball and interpreter Jeff Wildenstein have been memorizing lyrics and practicing for a month to get ready for the show. "We actually analyze the song and try to convey the emotion," Wildenstein said." Bono and Edge appeared on a radio show after leaving the stage and both referred to the night's performance of "Elevation" as "crap."...Adam ventured out into the ellipse not once but twice. At one point he danced with Bono in the way Bono and Edge do (and did tonight) and Bono said, "I think that's the first time I've ever danced with Adam. The first time." An article on The News Tribune. Some photos on U2-Vertigo-tour. U2´s fan annej5 met Edge and Bono. Look for some fantastic photos here. Bill Gates The Killers and Stone Gossard from Pearl Jam were there.

U2 start the second leg of the "War" tour. U2 perform in Chapel Hill, North Carolina at Kenan Stadium as part of "The Carolina Concert for Children", a benefit for UNICEF. During "Electric Co." The show is hampered by a medium rain. Bono climbs up the speaker tower and plants a white flag on top. Rick Miller, from a local paper writes about the performance, "Finally, forty feet in the air,...flag in hand, rain drenching him, Bono smiled and topped off his impromptu, lunatic ascent with perfect genius inspired lyrics, "I'm singing in the rain..." The mezmerized, delighted crowd joined in: "What a glorious feeling, I'm happy again." I think that's where the tears were felt...There are no words for the warmth of the thrill that U2 gave the crowd. I surrendered to U2 and I know I'm not alone." Listen to U2´s interview this day. Look for Edge during the interview. "The Unforgettable Fire" tour - april 23, 1985. U2 perform in Hartford, Connecticut at the Civic Center. The thirty-two shows of the first leg of ZooTV reap more than $13 million, with over 500,000 tickets sold. In the next week, the first outdoor ZooTV shows are announced, and U2's "Achtung Baby" goes triple platinum in the United States, with world-wide sales at the 8 million mark. Support is B.P. Fallon and "The Pixies".
"Elevation" tour - april 23, 2001 - Anaheim, CA - Arrowhead Pond. Musically, U2 has never sounded better. The Edge's searing delay-laden riffs on such show-stoppers as "Pride (In the Name of Love)," "Desire" and "Sunday Bloody Sunday" make obvious what a clever approach to the instrument he devised by side-stepping the leaden blues cliches that are the stock in trade of so many guitarists. In another local reference, Bono introduced the Edge, who recently moved his family to Malibu: "If you live in Los Angeles, this man just might be your next-door neighbor." Edge wears red shirt#7, this night.

THIS DAY - U2´S HISTORY: ...it´s a woman / The Point Depot´shows / 'You don't know the words, better eat your hat.' / Bono in Berlin / 12nd VERTIGO show!"Boy" tour - april 21, 1981. U2 perform in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at The Decade. Bono momentarily snaps at a fan who sprays him with a water gun, and then laughs when he realizes it's a woman. The following day U2 take off fro the Bahamas for a short break and to record a new single, "Fire" with their producer Steve Lillywhite at Compass Rose Studio in Nasau for their next single.

The high ticket prices(20.50 pounds and 25.50 pounds) are widely criticised by the public and the media. To compensate for the prices, it is decided to not put tickets on sale until September 19, 1989.
"ZOOTV" tour - april 21, 1992. U2 perform in Tacoma, Washington at the Tacoma Dome. This second night's show is originally scheduled for Portland, Oregon, but is later scheduled for Tacoma. The show has many firsts: After "One", Bono includes a verse from "Unchained Melody". An acoustic version of "When Love Comes To Town", and "Stand By Me" is performed at the end of "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For". The version of "When Love Comes To Town", features a short improvisation, Bono says: "I was a boxer, or something like that. Edge said, 'You don't know the words, better eat your hat.' Larry played the drums, Adam played bass guitar, I guess I was a singer, boy, did we go far. I ran into a jukejoint when I heard the guitar play,. Something about punk music and you didn't have to play. I said, 'Hey, I'll give up my job at the petrol station, get me over to the United States nation!'". "Slow Dancing" is also performed with The Edge singing background, and Larry on the tambourine. At the end of the song, Bono jokes about the song being about Seattle grunge music. Support is B.P. Fallon and "The Pixies".
"Bono in Berlin" - april 21, 2004. Bono is in Germany today to speak during the Awards for Business Excellence in Berlin, an event put on by the Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS. While in Berlin, Bono also takes part in a demonstration at Potsdamer Platz.
12nd VERTIGO show - april 21, 2005 - Denver, CO - Pepsi Center. the same little boy was brought on stage from the night before / 'Original Of The Species' replaced 'Zoo Station.' An interesting tidbit is the same little boy was brought on stage from the night before. He said to Nicholas, "Do you remember the magic trick I taught you last night?" And Nicholas obliged and did the trick, to the delight of everyone who could see what was going on. *The girl who got picked to dance with Bono during "Mysterious Ways" engineered the whole thing by arriving early and positioning herself with her husband dead-center along the rail outside the ellipse. They had clearly plotted to get her picked, as they were both bearing signs. Hers said "I want to dance with U," and his said, "Please touch my wife."Toward the end of the show, Bono announced, that "we're gonna play a song that we've only performed live once before; if it doesn't work, blame the Edge," and on they launched into a great performance of 'Original Of The Species.' This one should become a staple on this tour. It replaced Zoo Station the previous evening. Finally, Bono gave Colorado great props when he remarked something like "there's about 3 places in America where even if they don't play us on the radio, where even if things look down, the fans come out and support us every time. Colorado is one of those places." He mentioned at the end of the show that they may be seeing us again "sooner than you think." Some photos on: Interference

THIS DAY - U2´S HISTORY: Irish tri-color flag / Dylan joins U2 / fine form / "Kite"' debuts / 11th VERTIGO show!"Boy" tour - april 20, 1981. U2 perform in Cleveland, Ohio at The Agora. An all-girl punk band called Bi--- opened for them.
"The Unforgettable Fire" tour - april 20, 1985. U2 perform in Hartford, Connecticut at the Civic Center. Instead of playing "4th of July", the intro is "Drowning Man"--the switch of the two songs is performed for the next four shows. Again, Bono pulls the Irish Tri-color stunt--he accepts a flag from the crowd, and then throws it back into the crowd only to see them fight for it. "There's people over there fighting over that flag--well, you've come to the wrong concert!" Bono criticizes, "There's been enough fighting over flags!" Support is "Lone Justice".
"The Joshua Tree" tour - april 20, 1987. U2 perform in Los Angeles, California at the Sports Arena. This night, Bono introduces "I Shall Be Released"; "I can't remember who wrote it," he wonders aloud, and then sings the first verse and the chorus. Then Bono announces, "Ladies and Gentlemen...will you welcome Bob Dylan!" The crowd cheers wildly, drowning out the sound system. Dylan and Bono finish the song together, and Bono turns to the rest of the band to ask what the next song they want to play is. The Edge starts with what appear to be unfamiliar chords, but Bono starts singing "Knockin' on Heaven's Door". Again the crowd erupt when Dylan sings the first verse by himself. Both Bono and Dylan improvise most of the song, with lyrics like "A long black cloud is coming down/Hey, Ronald Reagan/You feel like we're knockin' on heaven's door?" Bono adds "You know I used to make up my own words to Bob Dylan songs...He says he doesn't mind". Dylan immediately jumps in with "I do it too." After the song, Bono sings an unidentifiable song, with the lyrics to "Old McDonald Had A Farm" mixed in. Support is "Lone Justice". "ZOOTV" tour - april 20, 1992. U2 perform in Tacoma, Washington at the Tacoma Dome. This night's show is originally scheduled for Portland, Oregon, but is later scheduled for Tacoma. 11st "VERTIGO" show - april 20, 2005 - Denver, CO - Pepsi Center - Kings Of Leon. Dallas in his hometown..."Here's where it all started for us," explains Bono, finally taking a moment's breath after Elevation , before applying his lips gingerly with some lipstick during Electric Co. (Aren't some fans generous...they think of everything!) "See the hailstorms,' he adds, referencing the sensational weather that greeted U2's arrival in the city....Yet it had nothing like the feeling of greatest hits, as The Edge managed to find new ways to chop at his guitar strings in Sunday Bloody Sunday and stood the guitar solo on its head in a deconstructed Bullet the Blue Sky.'...And we cannot let the evening pass without reference to Dallas Schoo, legendary assistant to Mr The Edge and tonight in his hometown - basking in the local admiration....Some photos on rockymountainsnews

So did Bono's falsetto vocal refrain, which the near-delirious crowd of almost 13,000 happily sang back at him. "Desire" and "The Ground Beneath Her Feet" were performed as spare duets by Bono and The Edge, who stood together at the tip of the catwalk. Both songs achieved an intimacy rarely heard in arenas. So did the impromptu, a cappella (and initially out-of-tune) encore of the Ramones' "I Remember You," one of two songs Bono dedicated to the pioneering punk-rock band's lead singer, Joey Ramone, who died this week.
