Proceeds from the show got to Amnesty International (Stop Tortue Week), a group dedicated to supporting human rights through out the world. Many celebrities and Amnesty International officials are in the audience. The excited crowd quickly leave their seats, and security, not used to handling rock concert audiences, start to rough up the crowd. During "I Will Follow", a fan is being beaten by two security guards, and when Larry notices, he jumps up from behind his drum kit and walks over to the edge of the stage. The Edge follows Larry to prevent him from entering the fracas. Bono shouts, "Where the hell are we? The last time we were here, this city just began for us. We won't have it spoiled now, aor any mistreatment to our people. These are our people! And if anybody spoils it, it's our fault, we make the music...it's rock and roll--not cabaret!" When the fighting stops, the band return to their positions, and The Edge discovers that when he dropped his guitar, it broke into two pieces. The band restart "I Will Follow" after The Edge gets another guitar. During "Gloria", the crowd is in a state of absolute mayhem. About 20 fans get hurt, and fans try to escape the crowd by jumping up on the stage. Bono stops the song and yells at the crowd to calm down. U2 re-start "Gloria" and again, Bono is forced to shout down a few fans in the front rows who won't stop pushing the crowd: "Why are you here/ You're not here for the same reason I'm here if you wont' move back. Because only one thing will be destroyed tonight--and that's the barrier between the stage and the audience!" The house lights are turned on by the head of security of the Radio City Music Hall, and security move onto the stage to push the crowd back. Bono stops "Gloria" yet again and yells, "We don't want any security people on the stage!" and attempts to get the crowd to calm down, "If you move back the guards are going to leave! Move Back!". The band again start "Gloria" and after a quick version of "40" leave the stage quickly. Support is "The Waterboys".
"The Joshua Tree" tour - december 3, 1987 - U2 perform in Miami, Florida at the Orange Bowl. "Pre-War" tour - december 2, 1982 - U2 perform in Manchester, England at the Apollo Theater. "Sunday Bloody Sunday" is cut short after the band realize they can't figure out what comes after the second verse. "New Year's Day" is dedicated to the people who have been following the tour around(these same people were allowed to sit in for the soundcheck). After the encore of "A Celebration", The Edge takes his guitar off and hands it to a roadie. Bono yells at The Edge, "We're not done yet!", and after The Edge straps his guitar back on, the band perform "I Will Follow" for the second time that evening. Support is "The Alarm".
"The Unforgettable Fire" tour - december 2, 1984 - U2 perform in Worcester, Maryland at the Centrum. The 11,000 tickets for this concert sell out quickly, and hundreds of fans remain outside the venue. Bono thanks the crowd for their support over the years, and before "40", he mentions that "Last year when we came here, we were very firghtened of playing in places like this. It was because it was our ambition to just turn this place into a living room and I think we have done that here tonight. I hope it worked out for you, it really worked out for us." Support is "The Waterboys".
"POPMart" tour - december 2, 1997 - Mexico City - Mexico - Atodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. Edge sings "Sunday Bloody Sunday". U2's first of two PopMart shows in Mexico City is marred by an off-stage incident -- the teenage son of Mexico's President attends the concert, and tries to leave through a restricted area of the stadium while the show is still in progress. A security guard brings the son to the ground shortly before he would've been hit by a large TV crane. That starts a fight as the President's son's bodyguards draw guns and go after security, not knowing they were only trying to save the teenager. As the President's son and his bodyguards get in their car to leave, U2's security chief, Jerry Mele, tries to stop them. The car moves slowly and Mele is dragged along as they go. He suffers severe injuries and will not be with the band when PopMart visits South America, Australia, Japan, and South Africa in the new year.
"Elevation tour - december 2, 2001 - Miami / Fl - American Airlines Arena. The Elevation World Tour ends tonight in Miami, just down the road from where it began (in Sunrise, Florida) back in March. Larry plays drums on 'Only Happy When It Rains', the last song of Garbage's opening set. 'In God´s Country' is complete with harmonica tonight. Bono stops to thank a bunch of people, including Sheila Roche, Paul McGuinness, and Chris Blackwell before 'One'. Bono ends the show by leading the crowd in the '40' chorus and singing 'Honey, I'm coming home!' Early estimates suggest the 113-concert tour has sold more than 2 million tickets and grossed some $160 million, half of that in U.S. receipts.

THIS DAY - U2´S HISTORY: Edge plays with his hand in plaster / U2 support Talking Heads / starts Pre-War tour / on the 22nd floor of the Parker Meridien hotel / "Slow Dancing" for the first time / U2 releases Night and Day / "One Tree Hill" is played in New Zealand / MTV Brazil airs Edge´s message to World Aids Day / "Please" to Elvis Costello.
"London Club" tour - december 1, 1979 - Having borrowed 3000 Pounds from family and friends to finance a short English tour, U2 play their debut London gig as support for "The Dolly Mixtures" in the Moonlight Club in West, Hampstead. In a Sounds magazine review, Dave McCullough writes: "U2 are about four people. Their music has minimum distortion and their songs reflect the strength of the four individuals. There's a kind of naive, rushing feeling about their music." Edge plays with analgesic, cause his hand is in plaster followed a car crash
"Boy" tour - december 1, 1980 - "Talking Heads" start a tour--support by U2. The first gig is in London, England at the Hammersmith Odeon. Melody Maker reviewer Paolo Hewitt writes, "Easily the finest display of awe-inspiring rock that I've witnessed in a long time. It contained just about every emotion...from anger to savagery, beauty and that indefinable essence where mere words become useless."
"October" tour - december 1, 1981 - U2 perform in Atlanta, Georgia at The Agora.
"Pre-War" tour - december 1, 1982 - U2 perform in Glasgow, Scotland at Tiffany's. U2 perform several songs off the as of yet unreleased "War" album including "Sunday Bloody Sunday", "Surrender"(which is introduced as the album's theme song), and "New Year's Day". During "New Year's Day", The Edge's guitar fails and Bono invites people on stage if "they have something to say". No one moves for a few seconds, until one man jumps on stage and swears. Another person jumps on stage and does the same thing. Bono reiterates that people should only get on stage if they have something to say. Finally a woman gets on stage to wish her friend luck in some unknown venture. During the encore, Bono recieves a bottle of Champagne from "Simple Minds", and pours glasses for the audience. The band perform "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" during the encore of "11 O'Clock Tick Tock" as they will do for the rest of the December tour.
"The Unforgettable Fire" tour - december 1, 1984 - U2 begin the American leg of "The Unforgettable Fire" tour at the Tower Theater in Philadelphia. The shows on this part of the tour are set to generate interest for the arena dates next year. A few days before, while U2 is in New York preparing for the start of the American Leg, Bono gives an interview on WBCN radio in Boston. Bono explains his pensiveness, "I'm on the 22nd floor of the Parker Meridien hotel, there's alot of people downstairs. I can't walk out on the street because people are pushing up against us. So, as I say, I'm on the 22nd floor, in this hotel room, and I wish i was on stage. I don't like this waiting around." Immediately, the hotel manager was on the line to their room, explaining that the hotel switchboard was hopelessly jammed with calls. This nights concert could have been sold out many times over, and it is generally felt in the U2 camp that these dates will be the last small venue dates the band will play. Support is provided by "The Waterboys".
"LoveTown" tour - december 1, 1989 - U2 perform in Osaka, Japan at the Castle Hall, finishing a three night performance at the venue. The third night in Osaka features a completely different set list than was performed all along the "LoveTown" tour. This night fans get the message and leave their seats and make their way down to front row--one fan is particularily rowdy. During "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For", Bono announces, "At a U2 concert people do not push each other around! I don't care if you bought the front row or the back row...we're all the same in here!" U2 switch the set mid-concert and play "People Get Ready" in hopes that it will calm the crowd down. The fan is still rowdy, and Bono shouts, "Listen guy: One more piece of shit out of you, and you're out of here!" Bono sings "Slow Dancing" on stage for the first time B.B. King joins the band for "Angel of Harlem" in which parts of Elvis Presley's "Suspicious Minds" are included. This is the last "LoveTown" show in Japan. U2 now travel to Europe to perform in four cities--Paris, Amsterdam, Dublin and Dortmund, Germany.
U2 releases Night and Day - december 1990 - U2 releases "Night and Day" as 12-inch promotional-only single, taken from Cole Porter tribute album Red, Hot, and Blue.
"ZOOTV: New Zooland/ Japan" tour - december 1, 1993 - U2 perform at the first stop of the two "New Zooland" concerts in Christchurch, New Zealand at Lancaster Park. "One Tree Hill" is played acoustically by Bono. Dring "Streets" hundreds of people manage to sneak into the stadium for free.
December 1, 2000 - MTV Brazil airs Edge´s message to World Aids Day, speaking to the necessity to have condoms, when the sexual life is active. Edge recorded it few days earlier, during U2´s ATYCLB promo tour in Rio.
"Elevation" tour - december 01, 2001 - Tampa, FL - Ice Palace. Bono dedicates 'Please' to Elvis Costello, who is in attendance tonight. (Costello has covered 'Please' in the past.) "War" tour - november 26, 1983 - U2 perform in Tokyo, Japan at the Sun Plaza Hall. During the first show, Bono invites an audience member on stage to play guitar during "I Fall Down". The Japanese crowd, not used to this type of behaviour at concerts, look on in surprise as a member of the audience jumps up on stage. Instead of playing "I Fall Down", the man tears into Deep Purple's "Smoke On The Water" and a few other hard rock songs. Bono sings the lyrics to the chorus of "Smoke On The Water" before going back into "I Fall Down".
"The Joshua Tree" tour - november 26, 1987 - U2 perform in Baton Rouge, Louisiana at the Louisiana State University Assembly Center. In the afternoon, U2 videotape a promotional video clip for their performance of "Christmas(Baby Please Come Home)" which they had recorded in Glasgow for Jimmy Iovine's "A Very Special Christmas". "ZOOTV - New Zooland / Japan" tour - november 27, 1993 - U2 perform in Sydney, Australia at the Football Stadium. U2 plays the first of two shows in Sydney, Australia, but bassist Adam Clayton misses the show, marking the first time U2 has ever played a show without one of its members. Long-time bass technician Stuart Morgan fills in during the concert. The band originally explains that Adam is ill, but Adam would reveal in later interviews that he was unable to perform because of a severe hangover. The incident isn't taken lightly within the U2 camp, as other members of the band and management impress upon Adam that his lifestyle is jeopardizing the band's future. In some reports, Adam is given an ultimatum to clean-up his act, or the band will call it quits.
"POPMart" tour - november 26, 1997 - U2 perform in Atlanta, Georgia. The tributes to Michael Hutchence continue at a show in Atlanta as Bono dedicates "One" to the late INXS lead singer. U2 throw a post-concert part at the "Mumbo Jumbo" restaurant, and were joined by members of "R.E.M", members of "Pylon", "Olivia Tremor Control" and actor Lukas Haas ("Witness"). Arcade Fire takes the stage with 'Where the Streets Have No Name' on the PA, a tip to U2 taking the stage to their song, 'Wake Up.' The Montreal crowd, which is well-known for being LOUD, doesn't disappoint tonight. A local radio station has given out 5,000 multi-colored flashing light sticks, and the audience holds them up during 'Sometimes.' Clearly moved by the sight, Bono changes a lyric during the song to describe what he sees. A stunning version of Bad ends the show with Daniel Lanois joining U2 on stage. During the song, they sing bits of Lanois' song 'The Maker' and a bit of U2's '40', before picking 'Bad' back up and closing out the show. Photos: cyberpresse

"The Joshua Tree" tour - november 18, 1987 - U2 perform in Los Angeles, California at Memorial Coliseum. The Olympic Torch at the Coliseum is lit before the encore begins with "Star Spangled Banner," marking only the fourth time the torch fire burns -- it had burned twice for the Olympics and once for a visit by the Pope. U2 open for themselves: Wearing cowboy hats and wigs, they fool the crowd into believing that they are the "Dalton Brothers". On the second night, "The Dalton Brothers" return to stage, this time however, some in the crowd get the joke. "Right," Alton Dalton/Bono calls out, "we play two kinds of music: country and western. This is a little tune I wrote back in the south, a tune I've labelled 'Lucille'. Hope you like it..." During the song, Alton/Bono introduces the remaining 3 members of the band, "We got Luke Dalton(The Edge) on guitar, ladies & gentlemen! This is my sister Betty Dalton(Adam, still wearing that awful wig), behind me here on the drums we got Duke Dalton(Larry). My name is Alton Dalton, don't you forget it!" The crowd seem to be in disbelief, and only a few applaud when the song is done. Luke(The Edge) comes to the microphone, "Well, before we start my song," he explains, "I'd just like to say it really is great to be back in Los Angeles, and whenever we come back to Los Angeles, my brother Alton, he says to me: 'Luke, it's great to be back in Los Angeles!' So here we go...This is a little tune we learned from Hank Williams...," and the band go into "Lost Highway". During that night's performance of "Bad", Bono accepts some balloons and releases them as he sings, "Let it go..." Ali Hewson brings champagne on stage during "Party Girl". support is "The Bodeans", "The Dalton Brothers" and "The Pretenders".
"LoveTown" tour - november 18, 1989 - Sydney, Australia Entertainment Centre. On the second night, a bomb threat shortly before the U2 set, forces an evacution of the building. Steve Ireldale makes the announcement, and assures everyone that U2 will perform that evening: "The band are going to play, don't worry about that. So, can people go towards the exit in a n orderly fashion please? It's very important. There is no need to panic whatsoever, but please take this seriously..." After the 12,500 fans leave the building, and a ninety minute search, nothing is found. Once the fans return, U2 hit the stage with "Hawkmoon 269" and Bono says, "Turn on the house lights Willie[Williams]! Let me see who we're dealing with tongith! Let me tell you: everybody gets out of here ALIVE!" The anger at the bombthreat is turned into energy for the show. "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" is particularily emotional, and Bono also adds in more on the demonstrations in the Eastern Bloc and in China. During "40" he also adds in parts of John Lennon's "Give Peace A Chance".
November 18, 1991 - U2's seventh album, "Achtung Baby", is released to widespread critical acclaim, but little fanfare.

An Elvis impersonator is seated in the first row at Adam's side of the stage, and Bono makes several references to his presence throughout the show.
94th 'VERTIGO' show - November 18, 2005 / Atlanta, GA - Philips Arena - Institute - Happy B-Day Joe O´Herlihy / Bono gave one shout to New Orleans clean-up volunteers! Encore(s): Until the End of the World, The Fly, With or Without You, Happy Birthday, Stuck In a Moment You Can't Get Out Of, Yahweh, All Because Of You, 40. U2 at Johnny Cash tribute and premiere "The Wanderer" - november 16, 2005. CBS. Edge told to U2.com: U2 appeared in last night's CBS tribute to Johnny Cash. The band performed 'The Wanderer' a song they originally wrote for Cash and recorded with him for the 1993 album Zooropa....Incidentally,a little while back Edge spoke at length about the day Cash came to Dublin and recorded The Wanderer with U2. 'I think like so many of our best ideas, 'The Wanderer' happened almost by magic. We were working on the song, Bono got on the mic to sing and he was going, 'I dunno quite how I'm gonna approach this one.' And out of the blue he said, 'Hey, y'know, I think Johnny Cash is in town, maybe we could get him to come and sing on this, with me or instead of me.' I don't know quite what he was trying to put over; at that moment I think we all thought, 'Aw, Bono's just trying to create some sort of distraction from the fact that he really has no idea what he wants to do on the song, this is just one crazy idea too far.' 'But whenever something like that happens I've learned to bite my tongue somewhat, because those crazy ideas often turn out to be the ones that come to pass, and indeed this was one of those. We got on the phone pretty much immediately to try and get through to Johnny, and he said he'd love to come down just to say hello, and, y'know, if it was something he could sing on, great, he'd be up for it. 'So then Bono went in and did a sort of faux Johnny vocal and it was eerie, suddenly this track just clicked into place. And Eno at the time was going, 'That's it! We don't need Johnny, you've done it, this is exactly what we need!' And Bono said, 'No, no, this is just half what this song would be.' 'So anyway, almost against Brian's advice, we had Johnny come down and he sang on the song and it was unbelievable the way it came to life. It got a bit surreal. Everyone completely got into the spirit of what he was doing. He did two vocals, that was it, we didn't even get into, 'Could you try it this way?' it was literally a case of, 'I can't quite believe what's going on!' There was a little element of giddiness in the room. 'After he left and we'd said our goodbyes, everyone just looked at each other and went, 'What just happened?!' ......"I went out walking, with a bible and a son?" and "under an atomic sky" 'Out walking under an atomic sky'

THIS DAY - U2´S HISTORY: "A Sort Of Homecoming" to the EP / Rene Castro on stage during JTtour / a young girl on stage / U2.com members asked to renew !
"Boy" tour - november 15, 1980 - U2 perform in Bristol, England at the Polytechnic School.
"October" tour - november 15, 1981 - U2 perform in New Haven, Connecticut at Toad's Place. crowd: 600 people sellout.
"The Unforgettable Fire" tour - november 15, 1984 - London England Wembeley Arena. During the soundcheck of the second show, U2 perform "A Sort Of Homecoming", and it is this version that eventually appears on the "Wide Awake In America" EP. The song is remixed with crowd noise, to give it the appearance of being recorded in front of a live audience. "A Sort Of Homecoming" also appears on the B-side of the "Unforgettable Fire" EP released in May 1985. Support is "The Waterboys".
"The Joshua Tree" tour - november 15, 1987 - U2 perform in Oakland, California at Oakland Stadium. Even though the first night sells out quickly, almost 16,000 tickets are unsold for the second show. Bono introduces another artist, Rene Castro, whom he had met during the "Conspiracy of Hope" tour, and who had encouraged him to tour Central America. Castro comes on stage accompanied by 20 artists called Placa and they set about spraypainting U2's stage. "And with any luck," Bono points out, "we should be able to show Mayor Feinstein the difference between an act of vandalism and graffiti art." The artists paint a huge dove of peace, and the message "Peace in Central America". At the end of the show, Bono again invites Castro and Placa on stage to sing along. They arrive carrying wooden crosses, simulating the dead of strife-torn Central and South America. He stops when he says the word 'DISAPPEARED': "[It's] a euphemism that death squads use for taking you out in the middle of the night, putting a bullet through your head and not telling anyone about it." Support is "The BoDeans" and "The Pretenders".
" Elevation" tour - november 15, 2001 - Oakland, CA. The Arena in Oakland. During 'New Year's Day', Bono brings a young girl (maybe 8-10 years old) on stage and carries her on his shoulders as he finishes the song. No Doubt's Gwen Stefani joins Bono again to sing 'What's Going On.'
U2.com members asked to renew - november 5, 2005. U2.com members are asked to renew their memberships via emails that arrive today. The main draws for renewing are a 20% discount off the $40 (USD) regular price, and a -disc audio and CD-ROM set called U2.Communication, which will include eight live songs. After the Vertigo Tour ticket presale disaster early in the year, the most notable thing about membership renewals at U2.com is the lack of any ticket presale guarantees: "There will not be any ticket guarantees as part of the re-subscription package...We continue to look for fair ways in which we can distribute tickets to our fans on future tours but any solution will not be tied to this re-subscription."

THIS DAY - U2´S HISTORY: WBCN radio in Boston / Bono apologizes to Vaillancour / the 100th ZOOTV´s show / "Goldeneye" / "Sunday Bloody Sunday" in Miami / Bono speaks to Canadian Liberals / 92nd 'VERTIGO' show: 'A Day In The Life Of Edge' / Edge and Bono´s interview with fans / Bono films Edge on a part of COBL / Chile´s concert? / NO 'Miracle Drug' / Terry Lawless joins U2 for 'Original Of The Species'! !"Boy" tour - november 14, 1980 - U2 perform in Kidderminster, England at the Town Hall.
"October" tour - november 14, 1981 - U2 perform in Boston, Massachusetts at the Orpheum Theater. The show is broadcast live on WBCN radio in the Boston area. When the band leave for the dressing room after Out Of Control, the DJ addresses the radio listeners. 'Pandemonium at the Orpheum Theater tonight, the crowd´s going crazy . U2 are leaving the stage but you know they´ll be back. This is absolutely incredible, the responses here...Well, U2 consider Boston their home away from home, really. The place is going nuts! The crowd is on their feet, and I hope you´re diggin´ it at home. Listen to the clapping hands, people who appreciate good music...that´s Boston, Massachustts for ya. They´re coming back onstage! I see The Edge...'
"The Unforgettable Fire" tour - november 14, 1984. U2 perform in London, England at Wembley Arena. U2 play two crowds of 20,000 people each.
"The Joshua Tree" tour november 14, 1987 - U2 perform in Oakland, California at Oakland Stadium. In two shows, U2 will perform in front of 119,000 fans. On the first night, Bono addresses the crowd about his little spray-painting escapade on November 11, 1987. "As you know i've been getting into a little bit of trouble here in San Francisco. A policeman called me up in my hotel room--he said he was collecting evidence concerning an 'act of violence' down at Vallancourt Fountain. They said, 'Mr. Hewson, we take this thing very seriously in this city.' I said, 'I take it very seriously too, but have you picked up a rock & roll band.' I mean, this is U2. We're the Batman and Robin of rock & roll for God's sake. Anyway, I think it should be explained that there's a difference because Armand Vaillancourt, himself, spraypainted his own scuplture, a few year's ago, when he opened it." Bono is clearly worried about the situation, and wants to prove he didn't do anything malicious. He introduces the aritist in question, Armand Vaillancourt, who walks out on stage and says that he is glad to be at the show, and that he regrets the grafitti has been washed off of his work. Bono apologizes to Vaillancourt, and hands him a can of spraypaint, with which Vaillancourt spraypaints "STOP THE MADNESS!" on U2's stage.
"ZOOTV - Outside Broadcast" tour november 14, 1992 - U2 perform the final(and 100th!) show of the ZooTV Outside Broadcast Tour in Anaheim, California at Anaheim Stadium. The show is added at the last minute when the tour organizers get together and realize they could sell out another show in the Southern California area. During the show, the upper part of the stadium shakes violently. At future concerts city officials respond by posting signs asking fans to not dance during shows. Larry dedicates "Dirty Old Town" to the "people [who] aren't going to make it; truck drivers, bus drivers, caterers...I want to sing this for their heavy duty work...hard to believe this is the last time I'm going to sing this in the US...I know how disappointed you'll all be..." Bono takes a few minutes to thank the crew for their hard work as the names of the various cities the band has played pass by on the vidi-screens. "...thanks to Paul McGuinness for helping to keep it together all these years, and Ellen Darst, his right-hand lady. Most of our organisation is run by women. A sort of work for them, really! We love them all. it's just too many names to mention..." Bono makes his last phone call of the Outside Broadcast and to George Bush, "That's 1-202-456-1414," he reminds the audience. "Hi, can I speak to George Bush please? What? George isn't available? But it's our last night! Can I leave a message for George? I just want to say that I won't be bothering him anymore from now on....I'm going to be bothering Bill Clinton now..." Support is B.P. Fallon, "The Sugarcubes", and "Public Enemy". The 42 Outside Broadcast dates are attended by 1,847,971 fans, an average of more than 43,000 a night. Only 79,329 tickets remain unsold. The tour grosses $53,913,608US.
"Goldeneye" - november 14, 1995 - Tina Turner releases "Goldeneye" - the theme to the new 007 movie of the same name - written by Bono and The Edge on Capitol records. Edge performs on the record.
"POPMart" tour - november 14, 1997. U2 perform in Miami, Florida. A sentimental rendering of 'Sunday Bloody Sunday' by The Edge, who stood alone under a spotlight, singing, and playing guitar. The Edge's cowboy hat was a suitable affection; he wrangled a range of guitar sounds effectively, whether blowing out blues-rock noise on Discotheque or streaming ambient chords through If You Wear That Velvet Dress.
"Bono speaks to Canadian Liberals" - november 14, 2003 - Bono speaks tonight at the Liberal convention in Toronto for incoming Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin. He begins his 25-minute speech by telling the gathered crowd "I'm not a supporter of any political party." And the focus of his speech is not on one party or another, but on the need to relieve Third World debt and raise money to fight the AIDS crisis in Africa. To the incoming PM, Bono promises "I'm going to become the biggest pain of his life! Paul Martin thinks he likes me. He doesn't know what he signed on for -- more lobbying about debt, begging for letters, petitions for unfair trade, phone calls about money for the global health fund."
92nd 'VERTIGO' show - November 14, 2005 / Miami, FL - American Airlines Arena - Institute. 'A Day In The Life Of Edge' / Edge and Bono´s interview with fans / Bono films Edge on a part of COBL / Chile´s concert? / NO 'Miracle Drug' / Terry Lawless joins U2 for 'Original Of The Species'! Encore(s): Until the End of the World, The Fly, With or Without You, All Because Of You, Walk On, Bad. Bono and Edge shoot a playful video with fans outside the arena in the afternoon, which includes Bono interviewing fans about The Edge. As the show starts, Bono takes the stage with a handicam and focuses on Edge for the first half of Blinding Lights. During Elevation, Bono takes a Chilean (we think) flag and says 'Coming soon to a stadium near you!' Terry Lawless is on stage for Original of the Species, U2's new U.S. single. It replaces Miracle Drug, which isn't played for the first time this year. The arena sings most of the songs louder than Bono, and security struggle for much of the show to control the crush outside the ellipse. **** A Day in The Life of Edge: Edge and Bono were caught on camera in Miami yesterday afternoon and evening. Guitarist and singer were spotted on South Beach Miami singing In A Little While at a life guard tower. Crowds gathered and fans were delighted to be part of the filming of A Day In The Life of Edge. Filming continued outside the American Airlines Arena before the show last night where Edge led the crowd in a rousing version of 'Streets' and then, using a megaphone, a repeated chant of 'Bono, Bono, Bono'. To add to the excitement and intrigue, City of Blinding Lights opened with Bono and the camera filming the very loud Miami audience. Whats it all about? Watch this space. The tour almost falls apart as Bono, The Edge, and Larry tell McGuinness that they could not reconcile their religious views with being in a rock'n'roll band. McGuinness points out how hard American Frank Barsalona had worked in organizing the concerts, and asks them to consider the countless others whose efforts would be ignored if they quit. The tour goes on, after the 3 band members agree to perform on the dates.

Bob Hewson would have turned 80 today. While blindfolded, Bono needs help from crew member AJ Rankin to guide him to the mic during Bullet. Bono wears a fan's cowboy hat during Wild Horses, which is dedicated to 'Patti, the punk rocker.' A young boy is brought on stage during Sunday Bloody Sunday; a female fan dances with Bono during With or Without You. Bono leads the crowd in singing Happy Birthday to a member of the band's crew. The strange and mysterious tale of the origins of The Edge! 'Some people don't know that The Edge is from the future. It's important to understand our band, to understand him. Not only from the future, but from the future on a very different planet. Larry and I were standing on a corner on the north side of Dublin and we heard these notes...' (Let the reader understand: Edge is playing the opening four notes of Miracle Drug as the singer digs deep in the imaginative well that is his memory.) 'We looked up to see a spaceship, I guess it was a time-travelling device. It landed on the north side of Dub. We weren't scared. We walked up and a door opened and The Edge walked out. 'I said: 'Who are you?' 'I am The Edge.' Adam said: 'Where are you from?' Edge said, 'I'm from the future.' Larry said: 'What's that like?' To which Edge replied by citing the price of fuel. ' It's $39.00 a gallon but its much better.... much better.' **** Gavin Rossdale, former Bush frontman.....Institute opened with a heavy jam, then I recognized it was Gavin from Bush that was the lead vocalist and sure enough they played some Bush songs like Everything Zen which was also good fun **** Some photos on: flickr / U2-vertigo-tour

"The Joshua Tree" tour - november 8, 1987 - Denver - CO - McNichols Arena After a discussion with Phil Joanou, the second night's performance is much more "crowd friendly"--the cameras are much less obtrusive. The show is charged--in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland 11 people are killed in an IRA bombing of a Remembrance Day Parade. Bono lets his anger show during "Sunday Bloody Sunday": "Let me tell you something, I've had enough of Irish Americans who haven't been back to their country in 20 or 30 years who come up to me and talk about the resistenace...the revolution back home...and the glory of dying for the revolution. F--- THE REVOLUTION! They don't talk about the glory of killing for the revolution, what's the glory in taking a man from his bed and gunning him down in front of his wife and children? Where's the glory in that? Where's the glory in bombing a Remembrance Day parade of old age pensioners, their medals taken out and polished up for the day? Where's the glory in that? To leave them dying or crippled for life or under the rubble of a revolution that the majority of the people in my country don't want. NO MORE!" The feeling of the show changes towards the end of the show--the band appear a bit more relaxed. Bono's anger seems to have subsided during "Spanish Eyes" Bono spots a woman in the crowd with a tambourine. "Who is this lady? Bring her to me!" he says to security. At the end of the song, the woman hands Bono the tambourine and returns to her seat as Bono starts singing the chorus, "Whey-hey-hey...baby hang on..." Adam joins in with the bass, and Bono jokes, "I was just getting it together with the folks, Adam. I thought I was pretty good." Bono is much more relaxed and plays with the crowd, "At the moment we're really stuck for a place to go afterwards tongith...has anyone got a house for us?" The crowd roar their response, and Bono's reply of "I didn't quite catch your name.." is muffled. "Helter Skelter", "Silver And Gold", and "Pride(In the Name of Love)", "Exit", "In God's Country", and "Sunday Bloody Sunday" appear in the movie "Rattle & Hum".

My ears are ringing. I have the worst headache ever. And this was about the greatest night of my life. I arrived at the Erwin Center at 4:45am on Monday morning, hoping against all hope that I would get my chance to be "on the rail" inside the heart. My dream came true. I ended up not only on the rail, but right there directly in front of the Man himself. For those of you there, I was wearing the number "7" Edge-style shirt. Having seen the boys 5 times previously this year, a couple of times within 3 or four "rows" of the front, I can honestly say that this experience exceeds the others by a factor of five. Just 24 hours later, my memories are not of each song played, but simply of being within an arm's reach of my favorite artist of all time. I was pumped even more when Edge came over to me before leaving--he saw my shirt-and gave me an approving nod and handshake. To top the evening off, Dallas Schoo came over to me and handed me a pick. And by the way, 24 hours later, my ears are literally still ringing. Edge wears. 'Stars'-burgundy shirt tonight."

Bono notes that the second show in Vancouver really "f---ed up the scalpers", as the addition of the second night left them with many tickets. During the encore, Bono asks the crowd, "I don't want to be Elvis tonight, I want to be Bono tonight...You love me for who I am, don't you? I don't have to put on all this shit for you, do I? Because the Furs were not allowed to do a soundcheck, they do not perform, alienating a large portion of the crowd. The crowd gets rowdy and during "Gloria" something is thrown onstage. Bono stops the song, and dresses down the crowd. During "I Will Follow", a few fans start an altercation with some other fans. Bono yells, "This isn't a circus, right? Hey you! Shall I tell you something about violence? I come from a country where violence is real, not pretend violence..." The Edge starts the song again, but within a minute another fight breaks out. Bono stops the song, again adressing the crowd, and The Edge starts again. U2 do not return for an encore.
"The Unforgettable Fire" tour - november 3, 1984 - U2 perform in London, England at Brixton Academy. On the second night, the pushing and shoving get so bad that members of the audience jump onto the stage. The show is the first in the UK, and is panned by many previous U2 supporters in the press. "Press Conference in Auckland Airport" - november 3, 1989 - U2 and B.B. King hold a press conference in Auckland, New Zealand at Auckland Airport. "ZOOTV - Outside Broadcast" tour - november 3, 1992 - U2 perform in Vancouver, B.C., Canada at B.C. Place Stadium. The concerts take place on the night before and the night of the US Presidential Elections. The screens flash "AND NOW A WORD FROM OUR SPONSOR" after "The Fly". While flipping, Bono comes across Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton making a speech and wishes him Good Luck. The band seem tired and uninspired. Larry misses his cue for "Pride(In The Name Of Love)" and Bono throws his microphone at him in anger. The band quickly leave the stage after the song, and during the encore Bono pauses to thank "Adam, Edge, and ESPECIALLY Larry for letting me be in their band."

He calls the event the "Woodstock of global health." His comments echo a familiar refrain. “A world without malaria and TB is no longer unthinkable,” Bono says. “A world without AIDS or extreme poverty is no longer unimaginable. Now more than ever we in the West need to show the rest of the world what we stand for as well as what we stand against. We are the first generation that can look extreme poverty and disease in the eye and change it.” His segment was recorded a day earlier prior to U2's concert at the Staples Center.
Bono duets with Alicia Keys - november 3, 2005. On a day off from the Vertigo Tour, Bono still manages to slip in a vocal performance. He appears via satellite at Blackball 2005 in New York City.
